The mission of this memo is to bring more AWARNESS to The Holy Spirit and the magnitude of what It does for us today here on earth! And likely you will learn some other things you were never Aware of.

Devotion to the Holy Spirit (Originally “Holy Ghost”)

As one of the persons of the Holy Trinity the “Holy Spirit” and is part of the Trinity (Which is One God) and as “Cradle Catholics” we always understood the Holy Spirit was the one of the Trinity that is working with/for us on earth and at every mass the Holy Spirit comes down and changes the water, the bread and the wine into the body and blood of Christ – The greatest miracle of anything that can be done today, called Transubstantiation! When we ignore the Holy Spirit, we as true believers in the Trinity are not showing the respect for a “God” on earth. It was nice that we decided to make a tribute to St. Michael the Archangel and pray to him at every mass for the freedom and protection of the Catholic church worldwide, but where is our devotion to the Holy Spirit for doing this long before St. Michael?


With all due respect, St. Michael deserves his role, and it should continue but we should be devoting a prayer to the “Holy Spirit” at every mass, also. I’m devoted to the Holy Spirit, as that is our greatest defender of the Catholic church on earth. I am devoted to praying to the Holy Spirit, and even created my own prayer, as there are only a couple of Holy Spirit prayers that I have ever found other than personal Holy Spirit prayers, like St Agustine several (He was quite devoted to the Holy Spirit) and many other saints that have created some for themselves! But only two are sometimes on the back of a monthly prayer book. But we only say it orally as a part of the mass, opening prayer “Father, Son and Holy Spirit” and it is slipped into many parts of the mass (Like the closing of the Collect – ‘Through our Lord Jesus Christ your son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit God, for ever and ever.”) like the Nicene Creed (we bow and say: “and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man”). We should be very concerned that we pay little respect to one of the most powerful part of the Trinity and, is here on earth today, still doing chores like Baptisms and Consecrations etc.!

We have a host of dedicated masses (especially Holy Days) and other deserving saints and many devotions to Mary and Jesus, but just one dedicated to the Holy Spirit which is shared on Pentecost Sunday.
 
Given that the Holy Spirit is our ”Advocate” and given that it is important to have a relationship with anyone whom we expect to “Advocate” for us, therefore doesn’t it seem “Neglective” for us not to cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit? This a good and quite simple daily prayer that can be used:  “Let me pray for devotion to the Holy Spirit, the Trinity’s God here on earth to help me!” (Or instead of ME, add special intention.)
 
Our God on earth is the Holy Spirit and specifically named for one day a year! There needs to be a daily prayer at mass similar to St. Michael. We need to be praying to the Holy Spirit as it’s the most powerful thing we have on earth protecting the Catholic Church worldwide, long before St. Michael, and protecting many souls of saints dedicated to the Holy Spirit!  
Dioceses have some discretion in adding to their masses. In a diocese in Alabama, the bishop advocates saying the Divine Praises (praying for protection from hurricanes) following a Bishop that mandated it over the prayer to St. Michael!
 
Let’s look at just a few of the things the Holy Spirit was responsible for:
*When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove and rested on Him, and a voice from heaven declared, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased".
 *When the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles at Pentecost, a sound like a mighty wind filled the room, and tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them, transforming them from fearful followers into bold preachers, enabling them to speak in other languages (the gift of tongues), leading to the conversion and baptism of thousands, and marking the BIRTH of the Church as they began to proclaim Jesus's message. 
The Holy Spirit is responsible for Almighty God taking on human flesh and blood, i.e., the Incarnation.  The angel announces that Mary has become pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit.  That is why, when we say those words during the Creed, we bow to give honor to this activity of the Holy Spirit.

It is the power of the love the Father has for his Son that causes Almighty God to raise Jesus from the dead.  It is that same power that will raise US from the dead.  And the love of the Father for his Son is none other than the Holy Spirit, as they are All One!
More prayers are needed devoted to the Holy Spirit and regularly used 
This is a couple that could easily be used:

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful,
and enkindle in us the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth. (There is a second paragraph to this, but conceptually enough though to be a prayer.)

Another is: 
Oh God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed
the hearts of the faithful, grant, that by the same 
Spirit, we may rejoice in his consolation.  We ask 
this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
 
Personally speaking, one of these daily is a nice start, even if the church still has nothing!
This is also a very good start to get Priest and Deacons to use in the Petitions like this: “Pray for devotion to the Holy Spirit, the Trinty’s God here on earth!” and that can be an easy start for making your awareness to the Holy Spirit.
Many other prayers are quite meaningful and especially by the “Greats” that created them and a few are written at the end of this Memo.

ANOTHER BIG REALITY:
In checking hymnals as I visit different churches: I have found very few specific Holy Spirit hymns! That means going back well over several hundred   years, all Christian communities that (our Catholic hymnals include a large number of non-Catholic hymns) have paid attention to the Holy Spirit! There’s likely many more that just aren’t regularly in our published hymnals. 
We as individuals can help by making a private prayer (like a couple above) daily and sharing this document to others and even reach out to your pastors or deacons to address this meaningful subject!
This pamphlet in no way demeans the current status of Jesus, Mary and God the Father. Continue your devotions and respect all their current activities in our Catholic faith!

Holy Spirit, powerful Consoler, sacred Bond of the Father and the Son, Hope of the afflicted, descend into my heart and establish in it your loving dominion. Enkindle in my tepid soul the fire of your Love so that I may be wholly subject to you.  
We believe that when you dwell in us, you also prepare a dwelling for the Father and the Son.  Deign, therefore, to come to me, Consoler of abandoned souls, and Protector of the needy.  Help the afflicted, strengthen the weak, and support the wavering.  
Come and purify me.  Let no evil desire take possession of me.  You love the humble and resist the proud.  Come to me, glory of the living, and hope of the dying.  Lead me by your grace that I may always be pleasing to you.  Amen.

Prayer for Union with the Holy Spirit:
O Holy Spirit of Light and Love, to you I consecrate my heart, mind, and will for time and eternity.  May I be ever docile to your divine inspirations and to the teachings of the holy Catholic Church whose infallible guide you are.
May my heart be ever inflamed with the love of God and love of neighbor.  May my will be ever in harmony with your divine Will.  May my life faithfully imitate the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him, with the Father, and you, divine Spirit, be honor and glory forever.  Amen.

O Holy Spirit, Spirit of Unity, Love and Goodwill of Father and Son, you have made us one in the sacred union of marriage.
Grant that – like the first Christians – we may be one heart and one mind.
Make us respect one another, help one another in our striving for holiness, and support one another.
Be our Guide, our Counsel, and our Consoler.
Make us bear one another’s burden during our journey to heaven where we hope to live forever as adopted children of the Triune God.
